Can you run a marathon with multiple sclerosis? If running is a part of your regular routine, getting a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis may leave you fearing the loss of this activity. But the good news is that many people keep up with running after being diagnosed with MS—it may just take some extra safety precautions and creativity.
What is the best exercise for MS patients?
- Cardio or aerobic (biking, walking, dancing, water aerobics, running, stair stepping)
- Strength (upper and lower body using weights, body weight, or other forms of resistance)
- Neuromotor (hand-eye coordination, balance, agility)
Does walking help MS? Research tells us exercise can help you manage multiple sclerosis symptoms, including fatigue, and problems with balance and walking. Exercising can also: improve your mood.
How long are MS Walks? Each Challenge Walk MS ranges from 2 to 3 days and routes vary from 30 to 50 miles. No matter where you participate, every Challenge Walk MS is unforgettable. Trying to process everything that comes along with an MS diagnosis, we decided to participate in Challenge Walk MS.
